Horse Play

We had the pleasure of spending some time with family this weekend. My Sister-In-Law and Niece came to visit. Although we only live a few hours from them, we don't get to see them as much as we'd like.

During a break in the rain we were able to take "K" to see some horses, some of which had recently given birth. In a moment of insanity I'd left both Big Daddy and Junior at home. Thank God "S" had her camera with her!

You only have until Wednesday to enter for your chance to win this flossy Dunkin' Donuts gift card. All you have to do is submit your guess for "What's It Wednesday" and you'll be entered into the drawing. I know some of you are reading and not playing, so I took this picture to entice you. I don't know who could resist a hot cup of deliciousness from D&D, fo shizzle.

April Showers

It rained for hours here yesterday, and I had been needing to get out and explore with my camera. So when the rain let up after dinner I hopped in the truck and went for a little drive. I found this amazing waterfall right by the side of the road out in the middle of nowhere. I can't wait to go back and get silky waterfall pictures when the leaves fill in!

What's It Wednesday

There were some great guesses last week! I thought J.T.'s "plastic cup", Luna's "Fisher Price record" and The Husband's "plastic plates" were all excellent, but in the end first time guesser Lacey nailed it. It is a frisbee! Her name will go into the hat for that fabulous Dunkin' Donuts gift card.

Remember, this is the last week to enter for April's drawing!

Disclaimer: this week's shot has had it's color altered. Good luck!

Hangin' At The Park

Since we all had the day off, Thelma and I took the kids to the park with our two friends, umm, Laverne and Shirley. I just had to bring Junior along, too.

That's Thelma's oldest in front. Her and The Youngest are the best of friends. If The Youngest has his way they'll be married with 10 children someday. They're going to get married in June. Ask him, he'll tell you all about it.

Thelma's Birthday, Louise Goes To The ER

Saturday was supposed to be a fabulous day. It was Thelma's birthday and I was going to drop off her gift on my way to meet Jill, a potential client, at the local coffee shop.

Then I noticed the red finger.

Overnight my finger had gone from just grotesquely swollen, to grotesquely swollen and red as a beet. I'm no medical expert, but I suspected I had an infection. I had to reschedule my meeting with Jill and interrupt The Husband's fishing trip in order to seek medical attention. The Youngest came along to document the event with his point and shoot camera. He had been quite the medical assistant on the day of the injury, so we thought he might like to see how the pros do it. Here is the trip as seen through the eyes of a 4 year-old.

My blood pressure was fine, even though I had to wait for over an hour to be seen.

I don't know what I'm doing in this picture...talking to the nurse maybe?

This is what I look like when I'm listening to the Nurse tell me that I need a tetanus shot, explain that the needle is small, and give me the medical reason why tetanus shot's hurt for days afterward. Seeing my face she suggests in not so many words that if I'm too much of a wimp we can skip the shot. Whatever.

Fearing for the Nurse's safety, The Husband suggests that The Youngest hold my free hand...

The examination.

After 2 hours The Husband and The Youngest are bored out of their minds. The Husband's signature self-portrait shot:

Later that evening the Walshton's finally got together to celebrate Thelma's birthday with a multi-course Tuscan feast prepared by The Husband. He's not a neat cook...

Happy Birthday Thelma!

A Finger And A View

It has now been 4 1/2 months since we moved in, and we have a huge list of projects that we can't start because at this point we're not completely sure that we'll ever actually own this house. We've pretty much lumped everything into 2 categories: things we can do for free, and things that have to wait.

So today I decided to dig up some random bushes that were either dying or planted in places that didn't seem to make any sense. I was about 10 minutes into my to-the-death fight with one of them when, in a freakish turn of events, I got stabbed in the finger with a stick.

Very few people know the "Finger Story"...

The Husband plays rugby on a men's league in town. Once, a few years ago, he hurt his pinkie finger during a game. After the game ended he wondered aloud if he should go to the hospital. In a moment that would go down in history I replied, "it's just a finger".

So this morning, as I gathered the kids and went inside to perform first aid, I realized there was no way I was going to get any sympathy from The Husband. In fact, this was the moment I was sure he'd been secretly waiting for for years...the moment he could get back at me for being so callous. I just knew he was going to look at me and say "it's just a finger".

You know what they say...what goes around comes around.

A Business Card

Here is a peek at my new business card. I've been trying out a new lab, so I'm really excited to see what they look like in person. Although I've used actual photos on my cards in the past, I wanted a cleaner, simpler look this time. The top image is the front of the card, and the bottom image is the back.
Hopefully they'll be in today!

An Introduction

Ever since I changed my business name I've had one small regret, and that's that I was so quick to delete my former blog. I feel like some of my new reader's are missing vital information.

So let me introduce myself.

My name is Lisa, and I'm a photographer, stay-at-hom-mom, daycare provider, wife and landlord, not necessarily in that order. I have a husband named The Husband, and 2 children; The Oldest and The Youngest. We live in front of a golf course in a house we hope to be able to buy either within the next 2 months or before we go old and grey. I am a neat-freak. I have pasta issues, and I've been known on occasion to be a bit sarcastic. I call my camera's Big Daddy and Junior. I drive a big blue truck that I absolutely love because I can fit the kids in it and still have room to buy insanely large home improvement supplies or furniture on a whim. And yes, it has a Hemi, that's how I roll. I call my best friend Thelma (and she calls me Louise, our real names start with a "T" and "L", and we're known to get ouselves into some trouble on occasion, so it fits). We spend a lot of time with her family, and when we get together we call ourselves The Walshtons.

There. I think you're up to speed.

Here are a couple of pictures I shot yesterday afternoon. All of the snow we got on Monday is almost gone and the temperature is rising, giving the impression that spring may be here at last.

What's It Wednesday

Look's like Leann's one step closer to winning a Dunkin' Donuts gift card! She correclty guessed that last week's shot was a stack of lids. (Not Tupperware, but those big bins you store stuff in). To enter for your chance to win, just tell me what you think this week's shot is in the comment section.

Spring

If you live in New York you just have to have a sense of humor. If you don't the weather will drive you nuts. Yesterday it rained a bit, and it snowed a bit, too, but for the most part it appeared to be a spring day. I sat in the dining room and watched 2 bunnies hop around, and the female Cardinal gathering sticks for their nest. The male did the usual...he pecked at the glass doors, hung out on The Husband's side mirror, and looked at his reflection in the bumper of my truck.

And this is what it looked like when I climbed out of bed this morning:

A Bridal Session

Today I had the great pleasure of assisting Sarah from Picture Infinity Studio's during Tiffany's bridal session at the Ben Conger Inn. This was not only my first bridal session, it was also the first time I've ever worked with another photographer. Sarah is great fun and I can't wait to shoot with her again the day of the wedding!

Playtime With Daddy

I took the opportunity to get more familiar with Junior the other day while Daddy and The Youngest were playing trains.

The good news is it looks like we won't have to pack them up anytime soon! Our Lawyer, Margaret Robinson, and our Real Estate Agent, Nicki Wynn, have been working diligently to keep our purchase offer from falling through. Yesterday we found out that our terms have been accepted, and we hope to be able to close in June. Yeah! If you are looking to buy a home in the area, I highly recommend you contact them.

Changes!

As some of you know, I have been implementing some changes to my business here and there. One of the things I had done recently was to add my "real" name to my "business" one. After living with it for a few weeks and not loving it, I thought long and hard about what to do. One of the things I thought was a priority was to come up with a shorter URL for my website, and impressionsphotographybylisawalsh wasn't going to work. In the spirit of simplicity I have decided to drop "Impressions" and become "Lisa Walsh Photography" after all. You can now find my website at www.lisa-walsh.com and my blog at www.lisa-walsh.blogspot.com

And since I'm in the mood to switch things up a bit I have decided to add a little love to "What's It Wednesday". I will be compling a list of all of the correct guesser's for each month and throwing them into a hat. At the beginning of the following month I will draw a name and the winner will receive a small prize. Each month the prize will be different. To kick this off for April I have decided to give away one of my very favorite things on Earth...a Dunkin' Donuts gift card in the amount of $10.

To be eligible to win you just need to leave your guess in the comment section and I'll take care of the rest!

What's It Wednesday

Congratulations to J.D., The Husband, Jennie and Leann for correctly guessing that last week's photo was indeed a cantalope. For the life of me I still don't know how you all got that one! I would also like to apologize for posting another image for you to guess. The complaint department was working overtime because of it. From now on there will only be one image posted, even if every single one of you guess it correctly. That'll teach me to underestimate you!

Here a full shot of last week's second image, which was a broom thingy to sweep out the fireplace:

Playing With My New Toy

My new camera arrived yesterday morning, and The Husband couldn't resist documenting the glorious occasion.

My first reaction was surprise at how small and lightweight it is. When I set it down next to Big Daddy The Husband and I both chuckled. It looks utterly ridiculous wearing my telephoto lens. After only a matter of hours it has been dubbed...Junior.

Knowing I would want to try it out on something other than random objects we have in the kitchen, and since he had the day off, The Husband kicked Junior and I out of the house for a while. I drove around randomly listening to the Gym Class Heroes and looking for photographically interesting subjects. Here's what I found:

Then he put together this wonderful dinner:

Thanks for being so good to me, honey. I love you!
