New Logo!

After trying many times to design a logo on my own and not coming up with anything I could live with long term, I finally decided to leave logo design to the pros. I contacted Cari from Purple Cow Graphic Services, and after listening to me ramble on about what I was looking for she sent me 3 preliminary designs. This was one of the 3, and after a few modifications we were ready to roll! If you're in need of a logo I highly recommend her.

Thanks for my sweet new logo Cari!

Photo Purses

I've been wanting to offer photo purses to my clients for some time, and after some research I finally found a company who offers them at reasonable prices. Thelma was my guniea pig this time around, and she picked the small bucket bag. The pictures are printed right onto the fabric. I absolutely LOVE it and thought about keeping it for myself, except that everyone would compliment me on my beautiful girls, lol!

Macro Monday

Thelma beat you all to it with the manhole cover guess last week. Let's see how long it takes to figure this one out...

California Fires

Being a member of a forum for Photographers means you "meet" people from all over the globe. I know of several Photographer's in California who are dealing with the impact of the raging fires right now. While the actual fires may not be a threat to them, many of them are dealing with ash and poor air quality. It would be so easy to forget what they're going through over here on the East Coast while we enjoy our beautiful fall weather. I just want them to know that my thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved ones as they go through this difficult time. Please stay safe.

Birth Announcements

Some birth announcements I designed for Shirley this evening.

A Waterfall

Saturday we stopped at Letchworth State Park near Rochester on the way to The Husband's rugby game. (I have to thank Shirley for telling me about it!) We ended up only having about 45 minutes (which isn't much time to take pictures, at least for me) at the park before we had to leave. Here are a few pictures of the Upper Falls. It has a trestle for trains that towers above the falls, and just as we arrived a train was crossing it...perfect timing for The Youngest. We are definitely going back next year to explore a little more and hopefully get some pictures of the other waterfalls in the park.

This picture shows how high the trestle is above the falls. There's no way you'd find me driving a train accross there!

Macro Monday

The Dawg's were the first to correctly identify last week's post as a flower. I have no idea whether it was a gerber daisy or not, but I can assure JM that it wasn't a bird of paradise.

Good luck with this week's image!

B&W Friday

Shirley made it easy on me this week, since I was going over to do an on location shoot of "Peanut" and her brother, and Shirley loves black and white photography.

So Junior and I popped over this morning. I didn't forget the battery...oh no. I don't like to make the same mistake twice. Not me. No way. Today I forgot the memory card.

Luckily Shirley doesn't live that far from me. And she understands that I have 2 kids and I'm getting old and my mind just isn't what it used to be. Plus she knows that she has 2 kids now and she'll be 35 eventually. I'm sure she's wondering if this will happen to her. Shirl, I'm here for ya.

Anyway, my Little Buddy has this sweet wooden rocking horse and was more than happy to play cowboy for me. Then he found out I didn't bring any gummy bears with me and we were done.

Here's Peanut's big blog debut! Isn't she adorable? And such a good subject. Look at her making eye contact. We're going to get along famously, I can tell!

She actually picked her little one-week-old head up and turned away from me after that shot, as if to show me that the light was better on that side and I didn't need to use any off camera flash. She was right, too...look at those catchlights in her eyes.

I just love little baby feet!

Here's my Little Buddy showing me his room. He's forgotten that we were done with pictures because Mom gave him some fruit snacks.

Thanks for letting me come over and hang out, Shirley!

The Walk

On Tuesday Thelma challenged me to walk 100 miles by Thanksgiving. I accepted her challenge, and today Junior, The Husband and The Youngest walked around town with me while The Oldest was at his last cross country practice. It's not too late if you want to join in, too!

The obligatory RR tracks shot. I can't think of any place more fitting to take this child's picture. Do you see what he's wearing for Heaven's sake? He's decked out from head to toe in Thomas the Tank Engine...shoes, pants, shirt. Heck, there's a good chance he's got Thomas underwear on, too.

Finally! The leaves are starting to realize it's fall.

Homer is full of interesting old fences. I wish our house had an interesting old fence, but instead we got orange countertops.

I liked the potted mums sitting on this stoop.

Only 95 miles to go!

Another Covered Bridge

I took these a couple of weekends ago on the way back from Harriman State Park. I'd actually photographed this bridge a couple of years ago when we happened upon it on the way home from riding Thomas The Tank Engine. When we realized we were in the same area I told The Husband I that I wanted to photograph it again.

This is the picture I took 2 years ago.

And these are the most recent. Which do you prefer, color or black and white?

I'm SO Fired!

This is a blog post without pictures. You know how much I hate them, right? Well, the plan for this afternoon was to pop over to Shirley's house to see the new baby girl (and get some pictures of her). I remembered to charge Junior's battery beforehand, and even grabbed my flash for some off camera lighting.

So, we get there and her little peanut is sleeping with her hand over her eye, as precious as ever. I go to take some pictures and my camera won't turn on. Hmmm, that's strange. Then it hits me...the battery is at home in the charger! Could I be any less of a photographer?

You'll have to take my word for it, she's a cutie! I'm hoping to try this picture thing again on Friday if they're feeling up to it. Stay tuned!

The Zoo

Last night, while The Youngest was in the kitchen drawing a picture of his Pre-K teacher, I decided it was time to practice my off camera flash skills.

In typical "my Mom is a Photographer and I'm tired of having my picture taken" fashion, he ceased being cute as soon as I got situated.

Ok, that one's a little better, but I was definitely losing him and had to do something fast. So I asked him to sing me the "Animal Action" song he sang in PE earlier. Here's my little monkey.

My elephant.

My snake. (And my ugly kitchen floor. Ugh.)

His expression after Murphy came in to see what all the fuss was about and licked his face. I love this one.

One last picture with Daddy.

All in all, it was a great practice session!

Covered Bridge

I took these pictures of the Newfield covered bridge a few weeks ago while exploring with the family. The bridge was built in 1853 and is the oldest covered bridge in New York that is used daily. I just love that this piece of history is still standing and in good repair. Click on the link to learn more about it.

Macro Monday

The winner of the last installment was H-dub, although it wasn't a BBQ chip...it was sour cream and cheddar.

Today's shot isn't a tough one by any means, but it's what I felt like shooting yesterday.

Are You Ready For Some RUGBY?!

My wedding season's over, so I'm happy to be shooting these games. It keeps me behind the camera, and I'm really enjoying the challenge of sports shooting. I just don't get these faces at weddings, lol. These are from yesterday afternoon's game. I'm really on the ball this week. Get it? On the ball?

Nevermind.

The Herd played a good game but they lost in the end. (Not sure what the final score was, but it'll be posted on the site soon). If they win this Saturday's game they'll still make it to the playoffs.
